From today, the Government of Canada has started to publish information on its compliance and enforcement activities on its website. The information includes:“We have always encouraged full disclosure of information to improve the safety of food safety and consumer confidence. This initiative is a step in the right direction,” said Bob Kingston, president of the Agriculture, Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) representing federal food inspectors and laboratory technicians.

The CFIA continues to work with consumers and industry on compliance and enforcement problems, practicing fairness, impartiality and consistency.

“Food safety is a priority of the Government of Canada and we are listening to Canadians,” said Minister Ritz. “We know that consumers want more information and we honor that transparency around what they doing to protect Canadian families. This will give our inspectors another tool in the toolbox to shine the light of transparency on repeat offenders and companies that seek to import food at risk. ”

The CFIA, in line with its commitment to transparency and accountability, will present a report on the results of enforcement activities.
