CEA-Leti has announced that four French partners are developing an injection of tracer, which can provide both nuclear imaging in the preoperative evaluation of tumor ablation and the optical imaging or biopsy.- Fluoptics, a start-up of the CEA-Leti in Grenoble, specializing in fluorescence imaging systems, and

The Nano-ENO three years of the project is the development of a specific tracer using a patented organic nano-carriers (Lipidot). To improve its targeting capabilities, a peptide molecule that recognizes certain types Lipidots to be grafted.

When the cancer treatment, doctors often turn to different diagnostic tools and surgical aid, including positron emission tomography (PET) and fluorescence imaging. PET is a nuclear imaging procedure that allows doctors to measure the metabolic activity of an organ by injecting a radioactive tracer and then analyze the gamma rays that are emitted as a tracer decays.

Fluorescence imaging is a relatively new technology, which combines the use of a fluorescent tracer in the near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). The result in real-time images to help surgeons achieve clean margins during surgery and thereby reduce the risk of recurrence.

The nuclear markers used in a PET scan to help provide high-resolution images, while the optical contrast agents to facilitate the identification of cancer cells in real time. The combination of these imaging technologies can confirm that tumors are made to correspond to studies tumors identified preoperatively. It also enables more detailed procedures to be performed with the reduction of general surgery, the surgeon can not work faster and with greater precision, but the whole process has been simplified, allowing more efficient use of operating rooms and staff surgery.

In 2005, Clara decided that the initiatives of private funding is a logical choice for structuring partnerships between public and private sector laboratories. The “proof of concept” (proof of concept) was the result of this decision. Today, the CEP initiative supports 25 projects and a budget of more than 32 million euros (23 million are provided for eighteen trading partners). Four projects have confirmed the state, including a product that is currently marketed in Europe and the United States (VIKY EndoControl system, an ultra compact robotic endoscope positioner).

This project is supported by the ROP Cancer Rh Lyon Alpes Auvergne NE (CLARA) “proof of concept” (proof of concept), three-year initiative.
